What is an Appointed Representative?
Section 39 of the Financial Services and Markets Act describes an Appointed Representative as a person who:
(a) is a party to a contract with an authorised person (his principal) which:
(i) permits or requires him to carry on business of a description prescribed in the Appointed Representatives Regulations; and
(ii) complies with such requirements as are prescribed in those Regulations; and
(b) is someone for whose activities in carrying on the whole or part of that business his principal has accepted responsibility in writing;
and who is therefore an exempt person in relation to any regulated activity comprised in the carrying on of that business for which his principal has accepted responsibility.
In Layman's Terms:
Gauntlet is passionate about delivering our clients an unparalleled level of service and value, and striving to build the kind of relationships that keep our customers coming back year after year. As a self employed salesperson, this is not for the faint hearted; being an appointed representative of gauntlet will leave you at the forefront of delivering our vision. From day one we will expect you to hit the ground running, but that’s not to say we won’t support you all the way. As well as a comprehensive induction day, learning all of the systems and processes that will help to make you a successful salesperson, we will also offer regular training days designed specifically around you and your continuing professional development needs.
As well as prospecting for new business and ensuring your clients receive the correct levels of cover, you will be given full control of your new clients servicing needs, expected to maintain and build on the relationships that you create, as well as managing compliance documentation in line with FSA requirements. You will be responsible for mid-term amendments and checking documents, as well as managing your own work load on a daily basis. You will be given the tools you need to write yourself an ongoing business plan, and you will be held to account for agreed targets and deadlines.
You will be required to travel to wherever necessary in order to complete submissions and sell new policies, and may be on the road for several hours per week. Although this is a field based sales role, we will give you a contact in head office that will liaise with you and broke your new business.
Whilst year one will be challenging, both financially and in terms of your time. There is no limit to what you can earn. If you put in the hours and the dedication, the sky really is the limit.
